What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser when you visit. They help websites remember information about your visit, such as whether you are signed in, so you don't have to log in again every time you navigate to a new page.

Cookies can be:

  • Session cookies — deleted automatically when you close your browser.
  • Persistent cookies — remain on your device until they expire or you delete them.
  • First-party cookies — set by the website you are visiting (taskquad.dev).
  • Third-party cookies — set by a different domain. TaskQuad only uses first-party cookies, though Clerk's infrastructure may involve Cloudflare (see Section 3).
02

Cookies We Use

TaskQuad uses only essential cookies. These are set exclusively by Clerk, our authentication provider, and are required for the login and session management system to function. Without them, you cannot sign in or stay signed in.

Clerk Session Cookies

When you sign in to TaskQuad, Clerk sets the following cookies on the taskquad.dev domain:

Cookie NamePurpose
__sessionStores your active Clerk session token to keep you signed in.
__client_uatClerk's client update token — used to detect account changes and invalidate stale sessions.
__clerk_db_jwtShort-lived JWT used during the sign-in handshake to securely transfer session state.
__cf_bmCloudflare bot-management token injected by Clerk's infrastructure to distinguish humans from automated traffic.

Legal basis for these cookies

These cookies are set on the basis of strictly necessary / legitimate interest. They are required to fulfil the contract with you (providing an authenticated service). Under ePrivacy Directive regulations, strictly necessary cookies do not require prior consent.

Clerk's own cookie policy

For full technical details on how Clerk manages cookies and tokens, see Clerk's Privacy Policy.

04

What We Don't Do

To be completely transparent, TaskQuad does not:

  • Set advertising or retargeting cookies.
  • Use third-party analytics cookies (e.g. Google Analytics, Mixpanel, PostHog).
  • Track you across other websites.
  • Share cookie data with data brokers or ad networks.
  • Use fingerprinting or other non-cookie tracking techniques.
05

Controlling Cookies

Because all cookies on TaskQuad are strictly necessary for authentication, disabling them will prevent you from signing in or using the platform. That said, you have full control:

Browser settings

All modern browsers allow you to view, block, or delete cookies. Follow the instructions for your browser:

  • Chrome — Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data.
  • Firefox — Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data.
  • Safari — Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data.
  • Edge — Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Cookies and site data.

Signing out

Signing out of your TaskQuad account causes Clerk to invalidate and clear your session cookie immediately.

Account deletion

Deleting your account via account settings permanently removes your session and all associated data. All session cookies are cleared at that point.

06

Third-Party Links

Our platform may contain links to external sites (e.g. documentation, integration providers). Once you leave TaskQuad, this Cookie Policy no longer applies. We have no control over, and take no responsibility for, the cookie practices of third-party websites.

07

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy if we introduce new features that require additional cookies. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We will notify you of material changes via email or an in-app notice.
